HIGHLIGHTS

  • As an extension of the Virgin Commercial and Property Team, QP worked closely with Melbourne Airport to negotiate new lease and Landlord works enabling the staged relocation for Virgin Airside and Landside operations.
  • Staged delivery over 14-month period with final stage of Virgin’s Offices (1500m²) delivered within a compressed 7 week period.
  • Successful relocation of VA operations before Easter and Christmas periods with no impact to Virgin’s aircraft operations.

MORE INFORMATION

  • The upgrade of existing VA Melbourne offices was in response to two key elements, a requirement to hand back existing airside offices to Melbourne Airport for the purpose of Airport airside screening, and secondly Virgin’s commitment to standardizing their operational airside and landside offices across the network.
  • There were a number of challenges during the planning and delivery of the project with Virgin operating from multiple locations across the terminal and a limitation on staging areas. In addition, the risk of managing latent conditions limited the ability for refurbishing existing offices which resulted in revisiting commercial lease negotiations for new offices.
  • Melbourne Airport’s commitment to working with Virgin to investigate and table multiple site and relocation strategies as part of a greater Airport expansion project enabled a ‘win win’ situation.
